Beloved teacher who made 'profound impact' in the community killed in wrong-way crash

A longtime teacher was killed in a triple-fatal crash in Ohio leaving many with heavy hearts.

Nicole Pelton taught at Ross Middle School for 22 years, WKRC learned from the school district Pelton worked for.

Nicole, Patrick Pelton and Gregory Meyer were killed in crash in West Chester on Sunday. Meyer was reportedly driving the wrong way at the time of the crash. Police received multiple 911 calls about a speeding SUV. Meyer allegedly driving the SUV when it struck the vehicle the Pelton's were in.

An officer at the crash site said the vehicle Nicole and Gregory was "torn in half."

The tragic news shocked the West Chester community

Pelton was referred to as a "beacon of light" in a letter sent to parents from the school district.

Mrs. Pelton was not just a teacher; she was a beacon of light in our school community with a passion for sharing her love of science. Colleagues shared how she had a unique talent for infusing her love of science into her lessons and always kept learning fun in her classroom. Her enthusiastic approach to teaching sparked curiosity and excitement in her students, leaving a lasting impression on their educational journey. The administration went on to say that Pelton made a profound impact on the lives of so many within the Ross Local Schools community.

Counselors were made available at the school where Pelton taught at this week.
