JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — YWCA Greater Johnstown is looking to raise money to replace the roof over its warm-water pool.
This project is only phase one of renovations they plan to make.
On Sunday afternoon, women gathered at the YWCA in Johnstown to enjoy a paint party hosted by Mesaro Arts and Entertainment.
Money raised for the event is being donated to the YWCA.
"We are raising funds for our roof fund. We are in phase one of our capital campaign to replace the roof over our warm-water pool. Our goal is to raise $85,000. We are very close to with grants and private donations and fundraisers like this,” said YWCA Greater Johnstown Treasurer Tiffany Sturtz.
The YWCA's pool is unique to the area. The pool offers experiences for people of all ages and abilities.
"We are the only warm-water therapeutic pool in the area. We offer aerobics classes, swim lessons, we do private lessons, also children and birthday parties as well at the pool,” said Sturtz.
The YWCA has set its goal for phase one at $85,000. After it completes this project, the board hopes to continue renovating the building in other ways.
"Phase one of the project is just the roof over the pool, but what we have is an old house that we are in, and we have other improvements that need to be made, some windows, steps, things like that. So we do hope to do phase two in the coming years after we complete phase one,” said Sturtz.
The YWCA's next fundraiser is "A Night at the Races" on Feb. 8. Find out more information about the event on its Facebook page.
