A special ceremony took place during an Altoona Area High School football game this evening.

The Highschool’s football team, the Mt Lions, as well as staff and students honored veterans who served our country during the game. During half-time the school’s principal presented an honorary diploma to Vietnam veteran, George Swartz. Swartz left the high school in February of 1968 during his senior year to enlist in the U.S. army. He served in Vietnam and tells us that there is one person he really wished could have seen him get his diploma.

“I wish my wife was here," said Swartz. "She passed away on me It means a lot to me. It really does.”

Swartz is the second veteran to receive an honorary diploma from the Altoona Area High school.
